Ampere Energy and Enagás Join Forces for Hydrogen Production R&D
Spain-based Ampere Energy has signed an agreement with Enagás, a gas multinational, to begin the joint production of hydrogen with solar power and energy stored in batteries. This collaboration will see the companies working jointly on several R&D projects to produce renewable hydrogen for self-consumption at the gas plant.
Ampere Energy is a battery technology company working towards batteries that use energy more efficiently. They believe power should be in the consumer’s hands and have delivered software-based, AI solutions that deliver on this point. With their technology, consumers can reliably control self-consumption and storage of energy.
Their first project with Enagás will also be the first hydrogen injection experience into a gas network in Spain. The network will use small-scale storage as a backup. The project will be carried out at the regasification plant that Enagás operates in Cartagena. Ampere Energy has already installed their Ampere Energy Square S 6.5 equipment at the plant, providing improved storage and intelligent energy management. The installed equipment will allow Enagás to maximise the energy efficiency of the Cartagena gasification plant and reduce the environmental impact and its electricity bill up to 70%, according to the two companies.
The battery will store energy coming from both the photovoltaic system and the power grid, and will monitor this energy. Through machine learning algorithms and data analysis tools, the system will anticipate the consumption patterns of the plant, predict the available solar resource, and track prices in the electricity market, identifying the moments in which the cost is lower.
