The 2016 Monkfish RSA FFO program was developed in coordination with the New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils to fund monkfish research. This grant is funded by the sales of monkfish, not by the government. Priority is given to applicants proposing research in line with the priorities of the Councils and the program. Program research priorities include:

  • Monkfish life history
  • Stock structure/identification and implications for stock assessment and fisheries management
  • Migration patterns
  • Trophic interactions
  • Cooperative research surveys
  • Bycatch and discard mortality
  • Trawl and gillnet gear studies

Eligible participants include:

  • Nonprofits without a 501(c)(3)
  • Nonprofits with a 501(c)(3)
  • Higher education institutions
  • Individuals
  • State governments
  • Small businesses
  • For-profit organizations other than small businesses
  • Public and state controlled institutions of higher education
  • County governments
  • Private institutions of higher education
  • Special district governments
  • Federally Recognized Native American tribal governments
  • City or township governments

Applications must be submitted before the deadline; application validation or rejections will be announced within two business days after submission. Hard copies of the application are accepted but if they are received after the deadline the hard copies will be returned to the applicant. The application package can be obtained from Grants.gov. All applications should include:
