The Community Development Block Grant provides funding to small, rural cities that do not quality for HUD funding. Qualifying cities have populations of less than 50,000 or counties that have non-metropolitan population of less than 200,000. This in effort to develop viable communities by ensuring safe, decent living facilities and expanding economic opportunities. The main objectives include:

  • Benefiting low- and moderate income persons
  • Assist in preventing or eliminating slums and blight
  • Meeting urgency needs that represents an immediate threat to health and safety

Eligible participants include those who meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Earn 80 percent of the statewide non-metropolitan median family income figure or less
  • Qualify for the Section 8 housing assistance program

  • Wastewater Systems Improvements

  • Accessibility Improvements to Public Buildings
  • Solid Waste Disposal/Landfills/Transfer Stations
  • Community/Senior/Social Service Centers
  • Shelters for persons with Special Needs
