The purpose of the Development and Commercialization of Technologies to Create, Characterize or Improve Animal Modes of Human Diseases is to support resources that create, develop, preserve and supply high-quality animal models and biological materials to the biomedical community. The development and commercialization efforts will benefit the research community by offering technologies that support the husbandry, characterization, and improvement of both animal models and biological materials related to those models. The program prioritizes:
- Existing human tissues alternative models.
- Techniques, equipment, and new approaches that are cost-effective husbandry and colony management.
- Cryopreservation and long-term maintenance of laboratory animal genetic and germ plasms high throughput technologies.
- New technologies to rapidly phenotype large numbers of animals.
- Reagents for testing animal colonies for pathogens.
- Animal models for regenerative medicine applications.
- Technology for animal stem cell expansion.
- Software for mining data from animal systems.
- Technology that analysis and identifies gene regulatory networks.
Typical award amounts of not more than $225,000 for Phase I projects and up to $1,500,000 for Phase II projects with project duration of up to two years. All applicants must meet the following criteria.
