The National Training, Education, Extension, Outreach, and Technical Assistance Competitive Grants Program: regional Center Grants to Enhance Food Safety was developed to build an infrastructure that supports a national food safety training, education, extension, outreach, and technical assistance system. The program is specified to help owner and operators of:

  • Small and medium-sized produce farms
  • Beginning farmers
  • Socially disadvantaged farmers
  • Small processors
  • Small fresh fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers

Applications must be submitted on time and error free before the deadline, late applications are not accepted. All applications must address:

  • The applicant’s ability to lead, management and coordinate the development and implementation of the project.
  • Identify, recruit, and train a network of key individuals
  • Clearly demonstrate a significant partnership with community-based organization, non-governmental organizations and/or other local entities
  • Ensure that training and other activities reach all key target audiences
  • Develop and implement a reporting process
  • Collaborate with the National Coordination Center and other Regional Centers

The program funds up to $633,333 total cost and may not exceed $950,000 for a three year period; projects cannot be funded for more than three years. Registration can take six weeks or more, applicants must complete the following registrations:

  • Dun and Bradstreet Universal Number System (DUNS)
  • System for Award Management (SAM)
  • eRA Commons
  • Grants.gov

This program does not require cost sharing.
