The Novel Tools for Investigating Brain-derived GPCRs in Mental Health Research program was developed to provided funding for Small Business Technology Transfer grant applications to enable the research of structure and/or function of the brain to be conducted. NIMH prioritizes technologies and approaches aiming at known receptor subtypes and orphan receptors. Ideal studies include but are not excluded to:

  • New technologies and approaches to further explain GPCRs function.
  • Specific applications designed to define GPCRs and molecules structural relationships
  • Studies addressing a variety of mental health disorders including:

– Schizophrenia
– Depression
– Bipolar disorder
– Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
– Anxiety disorders
– Eating disorders
– Tourette’s syndrome
– Obsessive compulsive disorder
– Autism spectrum disorders
– HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders
– Etc.

Grant awards typically do not exceed $1,000,000 per project and possible 50% increase upon Congress approval. Applicants are encourage to contact the NIH program officials before proposing anything in excess of the guidelines.
