The Serious STEM Games for Pre-College and Informational Science Education Audiences program provides funding to produce Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) games focusing on biology addressing health and medicine questions for:
- Pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade students
- Pre- and in-service teachers
- Informal Science Education audiences
Serious games are designed to train, educate, and encourage behavioral changes in a virtual world. Proposals may include in classroom or out-of-classroom settings including but excluded to:
- Supplements to existing classroom curricula
- After school science clubs
- Libraries
- Hospital waiting rooms
- Science museums
These games may target children individually or in group settings with or without adult direction and supervision. Awards for Phase I typically do not exceed $150,000 and Phase II awards do not exceed $1,000,000 for no more than a two year period.
