The Specialty Crop Multi-State Program is designed to increase the competition of specialty crops by addressing issues in these areas:
- Food Safety
- Plant pests and disease
- Research
- Crop-specific projects addressing common issues
- Marketing and promotion
Project that support collaborative efforts between states to identify solutions for challenges specialty crop growers face in food safety, plant pests and disease, research, crop-specific projects addressing common issues, and marketing and promotion. Eligible projects include:
- Improvement efforts of:
– Detection
– Monitoring
– Control
– Safety hazard response efforts
- Procedure Development in
– Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
– Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
– Good Handling Practices (GHP)
- Research focused on
– Water quality issues
– Biological soil issues
- Food processing Technologies advancement
- Improvement of national and regional traceback systems
- Improve Food Safety Programs
Qualifying partnerships include
- National Organization and State department of agriculture
- Two different states state level organizations
- Two state departments of agriculture
- Other pre-approved partnerships
Qualifying proposals meet the following qualifications:
- Fits into a project category
- Meets collaboration requirements
- Does not duplicate current projects
- Participants do not have past performance or compliance issues
- Adheres to the grant requirements
This program does not have any cost sharing requirements. Applications should be submitted to the SCMP. A grant package may be obtained through Grants.gov and should include:
- Application for Federal Assistance Form SF-424
- Application Packet
– Narrative and Budget
– Personnel Qualifications
– Letters of Commitment
– Letters of Support
– Areas Affected by the Project
All applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov prior to the deadline.
