The Ecological Effects of Sea Level Rise Program was established to support efforts to evaluate and quantify existing coastal features’ ability to decrease the effects of high sea levels and inundation on coastal ecosystems and communities. The program’s number one objective is to influence coastal management adaptation plans for seal level rise and inundation to evaluate vulnerability and resilience. Eligible areas are excluded to southern California down to the Mexico border and the Gulf of Mexico. Eligible applicants include:

- Education Institutions
- Nonprofit organizations
- State governments
- Local governments
- Tribal governments
- Commercial organizations
- U.S. Territories
- Federal Agencies
Projects are expected to address all three program priorities: Coastal Resiliencey, Coastal Intelligence, and Place-based Conservation. Priority is given to proposals that focus on the advancement of predictive models, specifically:
- Advancement of existing SLR and inundation predictive capabilities
- Application of advanced dynamic modeling capabilities
- Quantification of services provided by NNBF approaches
Awards typically are not to exceed $300,000 per year and $1.2 million over a five-year period. Application forms may be obtained through the Grants.gov website; they require:
