The Community-based Marine Debris Prevention and Removal Grants are available to finance the catalyzing of implementing locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention, assessment, and removal. Prioritized applications include those that have a strong on-the –ground habitat restoration plan, provide the largest benefits to coastal communities, and create a positive long-term outcome. The program focuses on removing debris from coastal habitats, waterways, and other wildlife areas. Eligible participants include:

  • Businesses
  • Community/Watershed Groups
  • Conservation Districts
  • Educational Institutions
  • Local Governments
  • Nonprofit Organizations
  • State/Territorial Agencies
  • Tribal Agencies

Awards typically range between $50,000 and $125,000 and require a 1:1 match. To apply for this program, eligible participants must be able to submit their application electronically on the grants.gov website. Applications must be fully complete with supporting documentation:

  • Financial Reports
  • Performance/Progress Reports
  • Reporting Subawards and Executive Compensation

To successfully submit an application participants must be registered with Grants.gov, DUNS.org, and SAM.gov. Applications must be submitted in one sitting, the application cannot be saved and returned to for later completion. All applications must be submitted before the deadline and will not be given an extension for technical difficulties. Once an application is submitted the applicant should receive a receipt of acceptance or rejection within 48 hours.
