The Shell Marine Habitat Program was established to support marine and coastal habitats in:
- Gulf of Mexico
- North Aleutian Basin
- North Slope Borough
- Northwest Artic Borough areas of Alaska
Funds are used to support conservation and restoration activities that benefit important species and their habitats. Funds may be used for activities of:
- Restoring oyster reefs
- Protecting, restoring, and creating wetland habitats for
– Shorebirds
– Waterbirds
– Waterfowl
- Monitoring habitats
- Implementing protection strategies
- Conducting applied research in targeted areas
- Restoration opportunities
Funds may run between $50,000 and $1.6 million with a match requirement of 1:1 and a match over of 2:1. Eligible participants include educational institutions, local governments, and nonprofits. Applications must be submitted electronically through the NFWF system.
