The Water and Waste Disposal Loan Guarantees program is designed to assist lenders to provide attainable financing to borrowers. Funds may be used to provide rural households and businesses better access to:
- Clean, reliable water systems
- Waste disposal systems
- Drinking water
- Sanitary sewers
- Solid waste disposal
- Storm water disposal facilities
- Legal and engineering fees
- Land acquisition
- Equipment
- Project start-up costs
- Capitalized interest
- Other pre-approved costs
Eligible participants include state and local government, nonprofit organizations, and federally-recognized Tribes in rural areas with fewer than 10,000 people, tribal lands, or colonias.
Loan guarantees cover a maximum of 90% of the loan, has a negotiated interest rate, and may have terms up to 40 years for payback, balloon payments do not qualify. Loans for this program are provided through private lenders; to get started eligible participants should contact private lenders and request to participate in a USDA Loan Guarantee Program.
