Delaware Patent of the Month – April 2021
As technology advances, communication barriers are stripped away. With language translation, voice-to-text, and closed captions, machine assisted interpersonal communication has become a broad range of services. Avodah, Inc. has begun developing a version of this aimed specifically at sign language translation. Sign language can be complex, relying on facial expressions in combination with hand gestures, movement, and orientation.
The technology uses imaging software to capture and process images and produce an automated sign language translation. The images are processed to assess the movement, depth of movement, and angles created which can be compared against a database of information regarding sign language. The database is ever growing, as the system uses AI to more accurately view and translate sign language. You could picture it as using sign language on video and having the system automatically translate your signing into text. Systems like these bridge a gap and help to strengthen connections throughout the community.
Are you developing new software for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
