Montana Patent of the Month – February 2021

Securing online data is one of the struggles that many companies and individuals deal with. Data theft and hacking is becoming more and more common as we move our banking and business activities online. And while there are many ways of detecting malware and IT attacks, such as detecting signatures and developing algorithms to analyze data packets to determine if threats exist, we don’t all have the skills or time to do this. That’s why Flying Cloud Technologies, Inc. has developed an enhanced data surveillance method.

The novel data surveillance is for privileged assets based on stream threats. First, Flying Cloud technologies creates a data baseline by performing protocol analysis, user-behaviour analysis, and packet analysis for every data packet that is received and transmitted. Then, other data packets received can be assessed for anomalies by comparing them to the baseline. By analysing these three measures, the system can perform a triangulation procedure, where the analyzed packets form clusters and the densest cluster is chosen as the centre on an n-dimensional hypercube. Then other packets are compared and if they’re determined to be far away from the centre and do not match any existing signatures, there’s an anomaly and the administration is alerted of a possible threat.

Are you developing new or improved software? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
