Nevada Patent of the Month – January 2021

Hydroponics is the practice of growing plants without soil. In fact, they grow plants with water as a base. Used in the agriculture and food industry, hydroponics can increase output since plants can be grown closer together, maximizing greenhouse real estate. Because there’s no soil, there’s also a reduction in weeds and other pests, such as animals and bugs that live in the soil. Hydroponics can also help with plantlife monitoring. With hydroponics, it’s easier to monitor water levels, nutrients, lighting, ventilation, among other plant needs. With HGCI, Inc.’s new hydroponic growing units, it’s easier than ever to sustain a hydroponic system. 

HGCI’s hydroponic unit design consists of an open top container with a water reservoir in it. A pump at the bottom of the container connects to tubing and pumps water through the tubing and out multiple jets into the containers. There’s also a support structure that fits into the container to support plant-life. A fluid level indicator is located on the support structure in order to monitor water levels. The tubing is made of recyclable plastics.
