AR-Innovator OQmented Opens Optics R&D Facility

OQmented, a German-based augmented reality (AR) hardware startup, has opened their Optics R&D site in Jena, Germany.

The company is a leader in MEMS-based AR/VR display and 3D sensing solutions. Their new R&D facility will move them towards their goal of developing their solutions as complete systems with optics as an integral component. The location was chosen as Jena has an international reputation for optics and photonics.

OQmented’s fully integrated LBS-based (laser beam scanning) light engines are a key enabler for stylish and lightweight AR glasses. To date, many AR designs have been limited by the bulk and poor aesthetics. But OQmented’s designs are easily worn all day and represent the merging of our physical world with virtual content and realities. To serve this emerging mass market, OQmented’s goal is to innovate conventional optics and combine it with its micro production process for new types of products.

Their proprietary technologies will assist in accessing the Metaverse. The combined 2D MEMS mirrors, electronics, and software is protected by vacuum encapsulation technology with hermetic seals.

OQmented’s founders have been major drivers in the development of MEMS mirror technology for more than 20 years. They have assembled an experienced team of engineers to build this technology.
